Patriotic Roscoe, Takoma Park's rooster mascot in red, white and blue

Unfortunately due to construction at Takoma Park Middle School, it is not possible to have fireworks there this year. The Takoma Park Independence Day Committee explored all other possible sites for fireworks in or near Takoma Park, including other local school sites, and were not able to find a solution with sufficient clearance to safely set off fireworks and host fireworks viewing. We regret that there will not be fireworks in Takoma Park, but would like to assure you that we explored all the possible options before making this change.
We encourage community members to join us for this year's evening celebration, which will take place beginning at 7pm in front of the Takoma Park Community Center and Piney Branch Elementary School. Our evening celebration will begin with a patriotic selection of music with the Takoma Park Community Band, followed by the National Anthem, a drawing of raffle winners, and end with the music of MO'Fire, a tribute to Motown, Earth, Wind & Fire, and more. There will be food trucks, vendors, children's activities, and more. Please visit our facebook page for more information. We will miss the fireworks but we hope to see you there!
Today’s events are planned, directed, and financed mainly by the efforts of the all-volunteer Takoma Park Independence Day Committee, with the cooperation of the Departments of the City of Takoma Park and the Mayor and Council.
TPIDC is a small group of volunteers who work hundreds of hours each year to make the celebration a success. While a City grant covers about forty percent of the total cost of today’s celebration, TPIDC raises the remainder mainly by soliciting donations from local businesses, churches, civic and service organizations, and individuals like you. We also raise funds by selling raffle tickets and leasing vendor spaces.

"Community Heroes"
Community heroes are individuals who offer their courage, dedication, and strength in the service of our neighborhood. Takoma Park is a community rich in heroes, from the public servants who make our city run, to the individual resident who helps out by shoveling a neighbor's snow. Some residents devote themselves to a career making our world a better place. There are those that volunteer their time to continue building the diverse, progressive, passionate local community we love today. Today we celebrate everyone who makes a difference in Takoma Park.
Featured this year as Grand Marshals are members of Takoma Park's various First Responders which include the Takoma Park Police Department represented by Chief Antonio "Tony" DeVaul, the Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department represented by Chief James Jarboe and the Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department Emergency Medical Services unit represented by Lieutenant Jorge Alfaro.
